RWA Conference Blues

Visit a few romance writer blogs this week and it's a given that the topic on just about everyone's lips is the RWA Conference in Reno next week. Sigh. For the first time since 1996, when I was a greener than green, unpublished, clueless conference newbie, I am not attending.

I decided to forgo Reno for a number of reasons, mainly that I hated to lose the nearly three weeks writing time (one week to prep, one week to attend, and one week to decompress afterward), but also because I have developed an allergy to smoke and really could not deal with a casino/hotel location. I told myself that I wouldn't even entertain the idea of going, unless the impossible happened and I ended up a RITA Finalist.

The impossible happened, actually. And although I'm thrilled to have been nominated (and I so would LOVE to be there for awards night jitters and the alternate panic/hope that assails one as they sit in the finalists row, holding their breath as the winner is announced) I still decided to stay home. I hope everyone takes lots of pictures.

July just isn't the same without RWA Nationals.

Best wishes on a RITA win! I'll be pulling for you!

I'm not going to Reno either. I wish I was. :(

I'm not going either. *sigh* Oh well, this time is better spent writing anyway. As I quit smoking a month ago, I'm with you on being somewhere smokeless. Less temptation that way!
Nice to have found your blog.

Heavens! Good luck on the Rita as well! (I'm such a doofus. I meant to post that in the above comment.) Dratted blogger won't allow you to edit posts...*snicker*

Hey, Jolie! Thanks for the kudos. Next year, Atlanta, I want a signed copy of THE SEA KING! ;-)

So, are you packing yet? I hope things are going well with your pending move!

Hi, Michelle! Welcome, and thanks for visiting my blog. :) I used to smoke myself (back in my reckless youth) but the past few years I've noticed that I can't be around smoke for too long or I end up congested and, more often than not, sick with a headcold. Not entirely bad, as the temptation to start up again will never be an issue! I hope you can kick the habit for good, too!

p.s. Thanks for the RITA well wishes.

I'm new to your blog (I saw your post on Michelle's blog). I just wanted to say that I won't be going to Reno either and I'm a GH finalist, so I feel your pain. :-)

Oops, almost forgot. Good luck with the Rita. Fingers, toes and various other body parts will be crossed for you. :-) I love your books, BTW.

Hi, Tanya!

First--most importantly--MEGA CONGRATS on your GH nomination!! That's awesome! I found your category at the RWA website (single title contemporary, yes?). I hope you win, sweetie! But if you do, oh, the agony of missing the conference! :-( Better yet--I hope you get the CALL very soon. Fingers and toes duly crossed for your good news!

Thank you for the cheers on the RITA, and for the kind words about my books. I'm so glad you've enjoyed them!

You're welcome and thanks a bunch. :-) I've never been to conference, so I really don't know what I'm missing. I think that's a good thing. :-)

In the interim, may Rita smile upon you. (g)
